Teaching On Nothings 11-16-19

Good day everyone. As I sat here thanking God for another day I started thinking about where my life would be without God and I came up with nothing good. What and interesting place to bring the message from. I would also like to ask all of you to pray for the continued presence of God in our lives.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, You expressed Your feelings about man’s natural tendencies in Your teachings to Your disciples, and for us, known as the Beatitudes. As we read these over we need to look at how our world tends to interpret them. I was reading a book in which you gave Your minister, J. B. Phillips special insight. He believes that You saw “self-love” as man’s arch-enemy — self-esteem turned inward and carried to excess — preoccupied with “what’s in it for me!” He believes that most people are living by their own “beatitudes” today, such as:

(1) “Happy are the pushers: for they get on in the world.

(2) “Happy are the hard-boiled: for they never let life hurt them.

(3) “Happy are they who complain: for they get their own way in the end.

(4) “Happy are the blasé: for they never worry over their sins.

(5) “Happy are the slave-drivers: for they get results.

(6) “Happy are the knowledgeable men of the world: for they know their way around.

(7) “Happy are the trouble-makers: for people have to take notice of them.”*

Help us Lord, to seriously consider these seven erroneous beliefs. Is this the accepted trend in today’s society? Is this the way we are living our life? Open our eyes to see ourselves as You must see us.

In Your holy name I pray. Amen.

Let’s eat.

Nothings

We can do nothing

John 15:1-5

I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

Helpless, we have nothing

1 Tim. 6:6-8

Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

Beggars, we know nothing

1 Cor. 8:2-3

Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes.

Ignorant, we are good for nothing

Matt. 5:13-16

You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Useless, we are nothing

Gal. 6:1-3

Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

This knowledge is not taught in the world’s schools

Quote of the Day

One can believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and feel no personal loyalty to Him at all – indeed, pay no attention whatever to His commandments and His will for one’s life. One can believe intellectually in the efficacy of prayer and never do any praying.
