A LESSON ON DISCIPLINE 06-16-22

_ 061615 DISCIPLINE

Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice. As I awoke this morning the word ‘discipline’ dropped in my spirit. I just sat and let the Holy Spirit run me through a series of things that I needed to correct in my life. I praise God for the indwelling of the Spirit.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, remind us of what Corrie Ten Boom said, You were more grieved by powerless Christians than by powerful atheists! You said that we were to ask for the Holy Spirit — that was a promise, wasn’t it? Help us to want all that You have for us, that we may truly be “over comers,” equipped to stand for You and with You in a hostile world. It’s in your Holy name we submit this and all things, Amen.

Let’s eat.

Divine Discipline

Its Subjects

King james

Hebrews 12:5-7 –

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Living Bible

Hebrews 12:5-7 –

And have you quite forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you, his child? He said, “My son, don’t be angry when the Lord punishes you. Don’t be discouraged when he has to show you where you are wrong. For when he punishes you, it proves that he loves you. When he whips you it proves you are really his child.” Let God train you, for he is doing what any loving father does for his children. Whoever heard of a son who was never corrected?

King James

1 Corinthians 11:32 –

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Living Bible

1 Corinthians 11:32 –

Yet, when we are judged and punished by the Lord, it is so that we will not be condemned with the rest of the world.

King James

1 Samuel 7:14 –

And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

Living Bible

1 Samuel 7:14 –

14 The Israeli cities between Ekron and Gath, which had been conquered by the Philistines, were now returned to Israel, for the Israeli army rescued them from their Philistine captors. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites in those days.

Its Instruments

King James

Titus 2:12 –

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Living Bible

Titus 2:12 –

and along with this gift comes the realization that God wants us to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures and to live good, God-fearing lives day after day,

King James

John 15:4 –

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

Living Bible

John 15:4 –

Take care to live in me, and let me live in you. For a branch can’t produce fruit when severed from the vine. Nor can you be fruitful apart from me.

Its Objects

King James

Hebrews 12:10-11 –

For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Living Bible

Hebrews 12:10 –

Our earthly fathers trained us for a few brief years, doing the best for us that they knew how, but God’s correction is always right and for our best good, that we may share his holiness. Being punished isn’t enjoyable while it is happening–it hurts! But afterwards we can see the result, a quiet growth in grace and character.

King James

Psalms 119:67 –

Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

Living Bible

Psalms 119:67 –

I used to wander off until you punished me; now I closely follow all you say.

King James

Psalms 119:71 –

It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Living Bible

Psalms 119:71 –

The punishment you gave me was the best thing that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws. They are more valuable to me than millions in silver and gold!

Quote of the Day

Jeremy Taylor gives us some fundamental rules for prayer. And the chief of them is this: “Do not lie to God.” And that curt piece of advice, so bluntly thrown down for us, is indeed all-important. Do not burn false fire upon God’s altar; do not pose and pretend, either to Him or to yourself, in your religious exercises; do not say more than you mean, or use exaggerated language that goes beyond the facts, when speaking to Him whose word is truth. ~Arthur John (A.
