GIVE THANKS 11-25-21

_ 112714 Happy Thanksgiving

This is a special message today. The country (USA) is celebrating what is traditionally called Thanksgiving Day, but if you are a child of God, everyday is thanksgiving! We have to stop putting praise in a box only to be opened on special occasions. We got to praise when we don’t feel like doing it. The God that we serve is to be praised always. Let’s go right to the Word.

Today’s Prayer

Father, help us to pause to recall our nation’s first Thanksgiving(USA) as we also give You thanks for our many blessings. Our Pilgrim forefathers had sacrificed much and had weathered hazardous voyages to find freedom to worship You! On that first Thanksgiving they had much for which to thank You — their safe journey, a welcome from two Indigenous people who could speak some English, and an introduction to a nearby tribe of Indigenous people, with whom they shared their first Thanksgiving. Later the Pilgrims learned from the Indigenous people that they had landed on the only coastal area where there were no hostile people, so they had one more reason to thank You, their Lord and Provider!* Help us today to recognize our blessings and to realize that You are our Provider also! You have watched over our nations, and it is because of Your divine love and care that we have survived this far. Thank You, Lord, and help us each to strive to be worthy of Your amazing grace. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen.

Let’s eat.

 Psalms 107:1-3

Say “Thank you” to the Lord for being so good, for always being so loving and kind. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has saved you from your enemies. He brought the exiles back from the farthest corners of the earth.

Psalms 138:1-5

Lord, with all my heart I thank you. I will sing your praises before the armies of angels. I face your Temple as I worship, giving thanks to you for all your loving-kindness and your faithfulness, for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. When I pray, you answer me, and encourage me by giving me the strength I need. Every king in all the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord, for all of them shall hear your voice. Yes, they shall sing about Jehovah’s glorious ways, for his glory is very great.

Ephesians 2:4-10

But GOD is so rich in mercy; he loved us so much that even though we were spiritually dead and doomed by our sins, he gave us back our lives again when he raised Christ from the dead–only by his undeserved favor have we ever been saved and lifted us up from the grave into glory along with Christ, where we sit with him in the heavenly realms–all because of what Christ Jesus did. And now God can always point to us as examples of how very, very rich his kindness is, as shown in all he has done for us through Jesus Christ. Because of his kindness you have been saved through trusting Christ. And even trusting is not of yourselves; it too is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good we have done, so none of us can take any credit for it. It is GOD himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others.

Philippians 4:6

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell GOD your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers.

Colossians 3:15-17

Let the peace of heart which comes from Christ be always present in your hearts and lives, for this is your responsibility and privilege as members of his body. And always be thankful. Remember what Christ taught and let his words enrich your lives and make you wise; teach them to each other and sing them out in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing to the Lord with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, and come with him into the presence of God the Father to give him your thanks.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Always be joyful.

Always keep on praying.

No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Quote of the Day

Very often when I haven’t faith in my faith, I have to have faith in His faith. He makes me believe in myself and my possibilities, when I simply can’t. I have to rise to His faith in me. A woman who was inwardly collapsed said to me, “Well, I have no faith of my own, but I do have faith in your faith.” “Good,” I replied, “take faith in my faith as a first step, and then you will go on to something infinitely better – faith in His faith.” With faith in His faith you can do anything- anything that ought to be done. There is a passage which touches your need. “For the Eternal… will not let you go.” Faith is not merely your holding on to God; it is God holding on to you. He will not let you go! As Walt Whitman puts it, “Not until the sun refuses to shine, do I refuse you.” Then keep saying to your soul, “In quietness and in confidence shall be your faith.” (Isaiah 30:15). Then repeat to your soul these words: “To say what ought to be cannot be is a brief and complete statement of atheism.” It is. Say to yourself, “What ought to be can be, and I will make it so.” And you will. And will go beyond yourself. ~Eli E. Stanley Jones~
