1 102113 Spiritual comfort

Good morning everyone. Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good yes he is good and He is worthy of our praise. As you read the message today I ask that you insert the name of your city or church into the scripture because I know that it will have the impact that the Lord intends for each of us.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Father, help us to realize that the “good news” is that You are discoverable, that You are all that Jesus Christ declared You to be. Through Christ we can glimpse the very heart of You, and know that You are a God of love, hope and strength; through Him, we know that we can trust You with our world, and our lives. Help us in turn to be trustworthy, to let You know in countless ways each day that You can rely on us. For this we thank You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Let’s eat.

COMFORT FOR GOD’S PEOPLE

Isaiah 40:1-11

“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone and her sins are pardoned. Yes, the Lord has punished her twice over for all her sins.” Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting, “Clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord! Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God! Fill in the valleys, and level the mountains and hills. Straighten the curves, and smooth out the rough places. Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. The Lord has spoken!” A voice said, “Shout!” I asked, “What should I shout?” “Shout that people are like the grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field. The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” O Zion, messenger of good news, shout from the mountaintops! Shout it louder, O Jerusalem. Shout, and do not be afraid. Tell the towns of Judah, “Your God is coming!” Yes, the Sovereign Lord is coming in power. He will rule with a powerful arm. See, he brings his reward with him as he comes. He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

The supreme test of goodness is not in the greater but in the smaller incidents of our character and practice; not what we are when standing in the searchlight of public scrutiny, but when we reach the firelight flicker of our homes; not what we are when some clarion-call rings through the air, summoning us to fight for life and liberty, but our attitude when we are called to sentry-duty in the grey morning, when the watch-fire is burning low. It is impossible to be our best at the supreme moment if character is corroded and eaten into by daily inconsistency, unfaithfulness, and besetting sin.
