(CLICK THE TITLE) Good morning everyone. “Oh give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good yes He is good and He is worthy!” Those are the words to one of my favorite praise songs. The last few days working with the General Synod of the RCA has been very tiring and humbling. For a moment I was going to try to have a pity party, but I turned my focus to Jesus and everything fell right back in line. I have a lesson for us all today.
Today’s Prayer
Father, There’s a little silly song I’ve heard that goes like this: “Oh Lord, it’s hard to be humble, when you’re perfect in every way…” Well, people may laugh at that little “ditty,” but the truth is too many of us think of ourselves more highly than we should. I’m sorry for when I’ve been guilty of that. I’m not always right, and usually admit when I’m wrong, but there are times when my attitude has been too “high and mighty” or “holier than thou.” I don’t want to be that way. I’m not better than my brothers and sisters in Christ. We are all human, sinners saved by grace. The rich are not better than the poor, or the supervisor better than the supervised. We all serve a different, but important, function. Please help me remain humble and appreciative of all and most of all, appreciative of You and Your mighty works. I praise You, Lord, for Who You are. I sit here, humbled in Your presence. With love, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Let’s eat.
Humility
Proverbs 15:33
Humility and reverence for the Lord will make you both wise and honored.
Proverbs 18:12
Pride ends in destruction; humility ends in honor.
Proverbs 22:4
True humility and respect for the Lord lead a man to riches, honor and long life.
Proverbs 29:23
Pride ends in a fall, while humility brings honor.
1 Peter 5:5
You younger men, follow the leadership of those who are older. And all of you serve each other with humble spirits, for God gives special blessings to those who are humble, but sets himself against those who are proud.
The scripture is clear on where we should be as Christians. Are we there yet? JUST ASKING.
Quote of the Day
If I cannot in honest happiness take the second place (or the twentieth); if I cannot take the first without making a fuss about my unworthiness, then I know nothing of Calvary love.
