Light of Hope in a Dark World 12-15-17

Good morning and praise God for the wonders of life He bestows on us. Today the words “the light” dropped into my spirit so I went to scripture to lead me forward with this message. I hope it helps someone the way it did for me.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, this is the season for giving, because You first gave to us. What can we give You? How simple it would be if we could purchase one gift, a really special gift, wrap it, give it, and be through. But no, we can’t buy You a gift, can we? It isn’t that simple. You want us to totally surrender our lives to You. You want us to re-commit ourselves to You every day of the year. For You, Christmas was total involvement forever, wasn’t it? That too, is the gift You want from us, one that only we can give. Oh lord, help us love You enough to want to give You this gift. In your holy name we pray, Amen.

Let’s eat.

Light of Hope in a Dark World

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”  Isaiah 9:2

Imagine being in a cave without a flashlight. Can you see any shadows? You can’t even see your hand! Shadows are only visible in the presence of light. Regardless of how dark, how large, how absolutely gloomy a shadow appears, it is only there because there is light. David says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” Why? Because “Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4).

Jesus has taken the sting out of sin and the fear out of the grave. He has empowered us with the Holy Spirit to give us confidence that He will always be with us and watch over us. There are many today who are grieving because of a loss—the loss of a loved one, a job, a wayward child.  Pray for them. Send them a note of hope and include First Thessalonians 4:16-17.

16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.

Quote of the Day

When was the last time you laughed for the sheer joy of your salvation? People are not attracted to somber doctrines. There is no persuasive power in a gloomy and morbid religion. Let the world see your joy and you won’t be able to keep them away. To be filled with God is to be filled with joy.
