Listening And Doing 10-26-19

Good morning and praise the Lord for another day and another chance to get the word out about our savior. The scripture for today really stopped me in my tracks. I hope it helps someone else.

Today’s Prayer

Father, how do we see ourselves, as Your lost sheep needing Your guidance, or as an independent generation of people and leaders who see no need to consider Your plans for our nation? Is it arrogance, or lack of wisdom, that energizes those who think they have “outgrown” You? Is their philosophy driving them to lead our nation to a “point of no return?” You warned us in Your Word that there would come a time when many people would be deceived, even some of Your followers. Open our eyes, both as citizens and as Christians, to see that along with our right to be both, we also have a responsibility to be informed and conscientious voters. In the days ahead, help us to seek the guidance of Your Holy Spirit in order to discover Your will and direction for our nation, for fear that we fail You and our children! In the wonderful name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Let’s eat.

Listening and Doing

James 1:19-27

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Quote of the Day

When we are spiritually free, we do not have to worry about what to say or do in unexpected, difficult circumstances. When we are not concerned about what others think of us or what we will get for what we do, the right words and actions will emerge from the centre of our beings because the Spirit of God, who makes us children of God and sets us free, will speak and act through us.
