Righteousness 09-27-23

CONCERN

Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good yes He is good and worthy of our praise. It’s time to pray and get into the word.

Today’s Prayer

Father, remind us of what Apostle Paul told the Philippian church: “Don’t worry over anything whatsoever, tell God every detail of your needs in earnest and thankful prayer, and the peace of God which transcends human understanding will keep constant guard over your hearts and minds as they rest in Jesus Christ.” Help us realize that it is easier to accept You as sovereign and Jesus Christ as Your Son, on faith, than to believe in a “happenstance” universe with no divine Designer whose care and love can be experienced by those who believe! Remind us, Lord, in case we forget, that You are indeed trustworthy, and that those who trust in You are forever in Your care. In the wonderful name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Let’s eat.

Righteousness

Isaiah 32:17-18

And this righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in safety, quietly at home. They will be at rest.

The Work of Righteousness- Adam and Christ Contrasted

Romans 5:18

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.

Peace, the Result Righteousness

Colossians 1:19-20

For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

Quietness, the Effect Righteousness

Matthew 11:28

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Assurance, the Enjoyment of Righteousness

2 Timothy 1:12

That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.

Quote of the Day

Every man naturally desires knowledge; but what good is knowledge without fear of God? Indeed a humble rustic who serves God is better than a proud intellectual who neglects his soul to study the course of the stars. ~Thomas a Kempis~
