(CLICK THE TITLE) Good morning everyone. The thought that hit my spirit as I awoke this morning was “Lord what do you have for me today?” The spirit led me to Matthew 5. So before we dine, we will pray.
Today’s Prayer
Father, when we feel helpless, hurt, ridiculed and forsaken, remind us that Jesus has felt that way too. There is really NOTHING that we can ever face that Jesus has not experienced. If we are hostages or prisoners, or if we are in bondage to sin, He was that also when He hung on the cross. If we feel helpless when a loved one suffers, or turns away from us, He also knew that sadness when His love was rejected. If there seems to be no one for us in our aloneness, grief or suffering, we should remember that He too must have felt deserted, alone and without hope in the Garden of Gethsemane. Oh Lord, only You can really understand our problems. What a friend we have in You! We are not alone, are we? Thank You, Lord, and we ask that You continue to fill our lives with Your glorious presence. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen.
Let’s eat.
The Sermon on the Mount
The Beatitudes
Matthew 5:1-12
One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.
“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.
Quote of the Day
We need to learn to know Him so well that we feel safe when we have left our difficulties with Him. To know in that way is a prerequisite of all true prayer.
