What God Has Given 10-09-22

As I sit here and give thanks to God for his word I have to make a confession. I had one of the worst “in the valley” days I’ve had in many years yesterday. Everywhere I turned I ran into an obstacle, but God lifted me up. I was given a scripture that reminded me and prompted me to share with everyone reading this message what this walk is all about. We must understand the things of God and to do that you have to be in the Word. I have a little revelation to share today.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for blessings, and You send us opportunities! We ask for help, and You send a friend who “just happened to drop by!” In so many ways Lord, You are there for us; sometimes before we realize that we are in over our head and need Your guidance! In big or little things, You are there. Help us to see these encounters as evidence of Your presence, Your love, and Your concern, and help us to remember always to give You thanks. More and more we realize that there is no such thing as luck or coincidence; for believing Christians, it’s always Your shepherding presence. Our lives are so much richer, happier, and more peaceful, since we have recognized Jesus as our daily companion and friend! we want to share the “good news,” so that others may know Him too. Help us all to continue to grow in our faith, and to learn to praise You in all things. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen.

Let’s eat.

Understanding What God Has Given

We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. – 1 Corinthians 2:12

God desires for us to know what He has freely given to us. One of the responsibilities of the Holy Spirit is to reveal His plans and purposes to us. They may be hidden for a time, but if we seek Him with our whole heart, we can know what He has given to us.

John the Baptist understood this principle. When asked by people if he was the Messiah, he replied, “A man can receive only what is given him from heaven” (John. 3:27). John understood his role in the Kingdom of God. He came to pave the way for the Messiah; he was not the Messiah himself. His ministry on earth was very brief, yet Jesus described his life in this way: ” ‘I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he’ ” (Matthew 11:11).

Once we understand what God has given to us, we can walk freely in our calling. However, if we strive to walk in a role that He never gave us, it will result in frustration and failure. God wants to reveal His plan to us by His Spirit. This requires a willingness to seek and accept what He gives us. It may be different from what we thought. It may require adjustments to follow His path for our lives. As we learn from the life of John the Baptist, obedience requires death to our own wills .

Ask God to reveal what He has freely given to you. Pray that you receive and embrace only those things He has reserved for you to receive and to accomplish in your life. Then you can be assured of a life full of meaning and purpose, and you can look forward to hearing those all-important words someday, “Well done, My good and faithful servant.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY

With a weak faith and a fearful heart, many a sinner stands before the Lord. It is not the strength of our faith, but the perfection of Christ’s sacrifice that saves! No feebleness of faith, nor dimness of eye, no trembling of hand can change the efficacy of Christ’s blood. The strength of our faith can add nothing to it, nor can the weakness of our faith take anything from Him. Faith (weak or strong) still reads the promise, “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” If at times my eye is so dim that I cannot read these words, through blinding tears or bewildering trials, faith rests itself on the certain knowledge of the fact that THE PROMISE IS THERE, and the blood of Christ remains in all its power and suitableness upon the altar, unchanged and unaffected. ~Horatius Bonar~
