Good evening everyone. I ask for grace for such a late meal but I was traveling all day and just got home a little over an hour ago. As I was speaking with a prayer group that gets together over the internet with weekly, the discussion turned to covenants. There were a few people that were confused about the old and new covenant. The meal today explains the difference between them beautifully.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, help us to learn not to keep running ahead of You, trying to do it all by ourselves, solving all our problems and everyone else’s, and making “heavy weather.” Teach us to turn everything over to You, claiming Your promises, praising Your name, and waiting for Your direction and Your timing. Our lives could be less stressful, wouldn’t they, Lord, and much more meaningful if only we’d learn. Help us. In Your holy name we pray, Amen.
Let’s eat.
Comparing The Old and New Covenant
New Living Translation
Hebrews 10:11-18
Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. And the Holy Spirit also testifies that this is so. For he says, ‘This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.’ Then he says, ‘I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.’ And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.
Quote of the Day
Bitterness is a habit that can seriously hinder our spiritual journey. When life becomes difficult, when it doesn’t seem as if God is providing for our needs, when we’re not getting what we want when we want it, we have a decision to make. We can hold onto our faith and trust that God has an answer in mind, or we can gripe and moan and complain and let our souls become embittered. Expecting an oasis, but finding a bitter stream? Don’t lose sight of the grace of God. – (Beside A Quiet Stream)
