_ 091114 Jesus The Rock

Good day everyone and give thanks to the Lord for He is good yes He is good, and since we are on the subject, I might as well share some information from scripture about the Rock of Our Salvation. Please say a prayer for the families of the victims of the 911 tragedy and keep them from being forgotten but instead lifted up.

Today’s Prayer

Gracious heavenly Father, You have created each of us for Your purposes. … You have a plan for our lives. It is up to us to build a relationship with You, to discover what You want for us. Our greatest worth and happiness depend on this. Remind us that we are made in Your image, just as Jesus was when “He emptied Himself,”* and became flesh and blood. His Spirit was His connection to You, just as our spirit becomes when we acknowledge You as God and accept Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. He had a soul, just as we have, mind, will, and emotions, one’s unique personality. Jesus chose to always seek Your will, and to be obedient to it. We have the same choice, for we can know Your will through the Word and by Jesus’ example, with the Holy Spirit’s guidance. We have a physical, destructible body, just as Jesus had. How we take care of it, and use it, is a test of our commitment to You, for You have called us “to be holy as You are holy,” for our greatest fulfillment, and for Your purposes. Open our eyes to see this, Lord. Walk with us, and help us desire to share Your love and Your Word, that together we can make this a better world. In the wonderful name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Let’s eat.

Christ, the Rock

A Tried Stone

Isaiah 28:15-16

You boast, “We have struck a bargain to cheat death and have made a deal to dodge the grave. The coming destruction can never touch us, for we have built a strong refuge made of lies and deception.” Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.

In Life, A Foundation Stone

1 Corinthians 3:11

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.

In Death, A Living Stone

1 Peter 2:4

You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

In Resurrection, A Corner Stone

Ephesians 2:20

Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.

In Ascension, A Head Stone

1 Peter 2:7

Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.”

In Glory, A Falling Stone

Matthew 21:44

Then Jesus asked them, “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? ‘The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the LORD’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.” I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit. Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on.

Quote of the Day

There is no need for us to wait, as the one hundred and twenty had to wait [Acts 1], for the Spirit to come. For the Holy Spirit did come on the day of Pentecost, and has never left his church. Our responsibility is to humble ourselves before his sovereign authority, to determine not to quench him, but to allow him his freedom. For then our churches will again manifest those marks of the Spirit’s presence which many young people are especially looking for, namely biblical teaching, loving fellowship, living worship, and an ongoing, outgoing evangelism.
