(CLICK THE TITLE) Good morning everyone. As I sat here thinking about all the conversations I have had with various people about circumstances in our individual lives and how things just keep piling up, I stopped myself and the thought process to clear my head. The words “look at the small things” dropped into my spirit. I was also reminded of the information that I’m going to share today so get ready.
Today’s Prayer
Father, the Holy Spirit dropped a few words into my spirit today and I thank you for putting my mind in check. “It’s the simple things” The simple things in life are the things that can irritate us and the things that can bring us the most pleasure. I want to thank you for the small things and the simple things. A small thing to one person can be a great thing to someone else. Please help us to stop and think before we react to little things that irritate us. Help us to always appreciate the simple things of life, for they are truly what we enjoy. Thank you for the beaches, mountains, lakes and forests; thank you for the light and warmth of the sun and the freshness and life in cooling rain; thank you for the wildflower so bright and pretty and the singing bird so beautiful; thank you for a child’s love and a pet’s devotion; thank you for a baby’s breath and an old person’s smile; thank you for a cold glass of water on a hot summer day. I could go on and on because there are endless things to be thankful for, but the greatest of all is love. I love you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Let’s eat.
Small Things
Who despises the day of small things? ~ Zechariah 4:10
Our Lives are filled with a series of small things that can amount to something big. Have you ever considered why the God of the universe came to earth and spent 33 years identifying with mankind through work?
Jesus grew up as a carpenter’s son and, no doubt, learned the trade from His daily routine of helping His father. For 30 years He worked. When it was time for Him to begin to fulfill His purpose for mankind, He told countless stories of people and their work. He told stories of landowners, farmers, fishermen, tax collectors, and so on. He related to the everyday man because He Himself was one. This is why it was important for Him to have some personal work experience. Life is filled with daily routines. Every now and then, God takes us to the mountaintop to experience His presence in a dramatic way. This is not the norm.
It was not the norm for those in the Bible either. Moses spent 40 years in preparation. Paul spent a great deal of his life working toward the wrong purpose until a dramatic event changed his life. Jacob spent 20 years working for Laban. God uses work to develop character qualities that He plans to use at the appropriate time. In the small things we develop trustworthiness with God. The day-in and day-out grind of working life molds us and makes us into what God desires. He may still be preparing you for something far greater. For now, however, you are learning the daily lessons of small things. Pray that you will be faithful. Many of us go about our day taking the small things for granted. We should be aware of every second because the Lord can end this life at any given moment.
Quote of the Day
One can believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and feel no personal loyalty to Him at all – indeed, pay no attention whatever to His commandments and His will for one’s life. One can believe intellectually in the efficacy of prayer and never do any praying.
