THE POWER OF PRAYER 12-16-21

During the season we are in right now it’s very important to share the Love of God. There are so many people who are lonely (Christians and non-Christians). Please take the time to let someone know that Jesus loves us all and is available to all. He proclaims no one walks alone.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, people today are looking for someone to love them and for someone to listen to them. Help each of us to see that we are really looking for You! You have known this from the beginning of time and when You realized that we needed a better understanding of Your love and all that You desired for us, You sent Your Son. He not only showed us what You are like – our Creator with a Father’s deep love and concern for us – but He showed us what we can become! Because of His example, always seeking Your will first, and because of His teachings, we can find purpose for our lives. Because of His sacrifice, making possible our forgiveness, we have the promise of a new spiritual life here and now, and eternal life to come! Oh Lord God, help us to grasp the significance of Jesus’ divine birth, for He was Your supreme and loving gift to all who can and will believe in Him. In the matchless name of Jesus we pray and give thanks, Amen.

Let’s eat.

THE POWER OF PRAYER

James 5:13-18

13. Is anyone among you suffering? He should keep on praying about it. And those who have reason to be thankful should continually be singing praises to the Lord. 14. Is anyone sick? He should call for the elders of the church and they should pray over him and pour a little oil upon him, calling on the Lord to heal him. 15. And their prayer, if offered in faith, will heal him, for the Lord will make him well; and if his sickness was caused by some sin, the Lord will forgive him.

16. Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results. 17. Elijah was as completely human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for the next three and one half years! 18. Then he prayed again, this time that it would rain, and down it poured and the grass turned green and the gardens began to grow again.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Yes, we can believe God with all of our heart and yet have our heart broken by the loss of a child or the treachery of a spouse or the menace of a fatal disease. We know this is true — everyone in the church knows it. And yet, generation after generation of bruised saints have known something else and spoken of it. In the mystery of faith, we find a hand on us in the darkness, a voice that calls our name, and the sheer certainty that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God — not for this life and not for the life to come. We may be scarred and shaken, but as Lewis Smedes says in one of his sermons, we come to know that it’s all right, even when everything is all wrong. ~Cornelius Plantinga, Jr.~
