WHO WE ARE 06-09-22

_ 100114 little Children

Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice. The message today is a reminder of who we are spiritually. My hope is that you will be blessed by it.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, help us to accept life as a series of shocks — floods, tornadoes, sickness, death — interspersed with moments of shining joy, gentle love, quiet peace, indomitable hope. All this is the fabric of our lives. Help us to cling to these moments, sustained by Your strength, secure in Your love. Let us remember that Your despair became victory, Your sorrow, joy. Let this be so in our lives. Keep us on an even keel, we need You. Thank You, Lord Jesus, Amen.

Let’s eat.

Children

Children of Wrath – By Nature

Ephesians 2:3

All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

Romans 5:12

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Children of Disobedience – By Practice

Ephesians 2:2

You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.

Isaiah 53:6

All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

Children of the Devil – By Manifestation

John 8:44

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

1 John 3:8-10

But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.

Children of God – By Faith

Galatians 3:23-29

Before the way of faith in Christ was available to us, we were placed under guard by the law. We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until the way of faith was revealed. Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian. For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.

1 John 3:1-2

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.

Quote of the Day

Why doesn’t our contagious joy, enthusiasm, and gratitude infect others with a longing for Christ? Why are the fire and spirit of Peter and Paul so conspicuously absent from our pallid existence? Perhaps because so few of us have taken the journey of faith across the chasm between knowledge and experience. We prefer to read the map rather than visit the place. The specter of our actual unbelief persuades us that it is not the experience that is real but our explanation of the experience. Our beliefs – which William Blake called “The mind-forged manacle” – distance us from the grip of personal experience. ~Brennan Manning~
